Looking for something fun to do at your next outdoor gathering? Whether it be your 4th of July BBQ, just a family gathering or picnic, a birthday party in the summer or just a play date – here are some fun outdoor games for you to play!
It is officially summer! Warmer weather, firing up the grill, swimming and lounging by the beach are just a few of the things I look forward to when the summer months finally get here! There are also state fairs and amusement parks to look forward to, as well. But why not have fun in your own back yard this year! I have compiled a list of fun outdoor games to play at your 4th of July BBQ this year, or any time this summer!
1. Water Balloons
It’s hot outside, so why not get wet! Just fill up some balloons and have a ton of fun with them! You can invent many fun games to play with water balloons. You can play water balloon toss. You can play Slippery Toss, where you soap the balloons up before tossing them to make them slippery. Or you can just have a good ol’ water balloon battle! Just be careful and no throwing at the face!
I’m sure most of you know what Horseshoes is. If not, Horseshoes is an outdoor game played between two people (or two teams of two people) using four horseshoes and two throwing targets (stakes) set in a sandbox area. My parents played this when I was a child. And now, I play it as an adult. This game is better for adults and older children as the shoes are heavy.
3. Cornhole/Bean Bag Toss
Whether you call this game Cornhole or Bean Bag Toss – it is a super fun game. You can play with just 2 people or play with teams of 2. You just try to get the bean bag in the hole. Or get the bean bag closer to the hole than your opponent does. I have seen lots of different people play with lots of different rules. You just do what is fun for you and your family and friends! My husband actually made this set himself, but you can buy them in many stores and online!
4. Bocce Ball
This fun game is kind of similar to Bean Bag Toss, but not really. lol. Instead of throwing a bag, you are rolling a ball. There are 8 colored balls, which are typically 4 green and 4 red. And one smaller ball that is usually white. You can play against one opponent have teams with up to 4 players each. You start by rolling the smaller white ball, usually called the jack, into the playing field. Then take turns rolling the other balls as close to the jack as you can. It is a very relaxed game but also very strategic. But also very fun!
I am sure most of you know what Badminton is. It is a super fun game played with rackets and birdies (or also called shuttlecocks). Get the kids involved and play pairs of one adult and one kid. Play two adults versus two adults. 2 kids versus 2 kids. No matter how you play, it is super fun!
6. Swimming Pool Games
There are so many fun games that you can play in a swimming pool. There is Marco Polo, swimming laps, races, Pool Volleyball, Pool Basketball, Pool Badminton. You can play with floating toys, beach balls, diving toys and so much more. Or you can just get you a raft and relax while you float!
Volleyball was one of my favorite games to play outdoors when I was a kid. There was just never enough people to play it with. Which is why a BBQ is the perfect time to play this fun outdoor game. Because you will have plenty of people to participate!
I know everyone has had to have played Tag a time or two in their lives. But if the usual game of tag is too boring for you, why not switch it up?!? You can play Freeze Tag, Flashlight Tag or even TV Tag. TV Tag is when you tag people and they are frozen. They can only become unfrozen when they yell out the name of a TV show. But the cannot name a TV show that has already been used previously. So it does get hard after awhile. But you could also do this with movie titles, Bands, songs or books. You can all choose any kind of category that you would like before the game begins. The possibilities are endless!
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!! Do you have any big plans for this 4th of July??!?!?
