My daughter and I love to read together. My daughter has special needs and is still having a rough time learning to read. So we always make a point to read at least one book together every day. We usually do this at night, before bed. She has a show box full of books by her bed and we read one of them every night and rotate new books in and out every week. And now she has a new favorite book that we have been reading quite a few times over the last few weeks. It is called The Central Park Tales by Marcus Meesters and it is such a cute, fun and adorable book.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Mother Dog gives a tea party and it all goes terribly wrong when some unexpected visitors come barking at her door. Her children, Doctor Beggar and Mister Pup, help a shy dog out of the water and dig up a secret pirate treasure. Little Mousekin meets the mythical moth from her father’s bedtime story and is taught how to be a real ballerina. Frog is tricked by three mean crows, but is saved by the mysterious Swamp Witch, who shows him that he is really a prince. All this and more happens in The Central Park Tales, an instant classic that will enchant readers of all ages.
This book has 10 different little stories. One for each chapter. All of them are just as great as the next. My daughter especially loved Chapter 9, titled The Moth. It tells the story of little Mousekin. She desperately wants to become a ballerina. She also meets the mystical moth that she had heard about in her father’s bedtime story. My daughter also wants to be a ballerina, so she really enjoyed this little story. All of these stories take place in the world’s most famous park, Central Park, and tell the stories of all of the little creatures that live there.
This book would not only be great for kids for the holidays, it would be great for adults, too. Just like my daughter, I have really enjoyed reading all of these little tales. And all of the illustrations are also done by the author. They are cute and help you really get a picture in your mind of the story that you are reading.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Marcus Meesters is the author and illustrator of The Central Park Tales. He was born in the Netherlands and, at the age of 25, he moved to Amsterdam, where he got to know Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s most famous city park. Meesters is a lover of classic children’s books, and it was during one of his walks in Vondelpark that he got the idea to write his own children’s book about the animals that live there. His first book, The Vondelpark Tales, was born and extremely well received.
Meesters recently released the second book in the trilogy, The Central Park Tales, which beautifully depicts the famous Central Park in New York City. The third book in the trilogy, The Hyde Park Tales, is expected to release in 2016.
