I just love the holidays, don’t you? The lights, the decorations, the traditions, the trees, the music, the family togetherness - I just love all of it. During the whole month of December, it just feels like there is magic in the air. Two of my favorites things about the holidays are holidays traditions that I have with my family and sending Christmas cards to those members of my family that live far away! Hallmark makes the best Christmas cards and the best ornaments! And they have also inspired me to make some delicious cupcakes! These Christmas Cupcakes are fun and easy to make, delicious, and totally inspired by some recent Hallmark cards and ornaments that I purchased at Walmart! I saw the candy cane borders on the Christmas cards and knew I had to make some cupcakes using candy canes!

Easy Christmas Cupcakes

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 boxed red cake mix
  • 1 boxed green cake mix
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup water
  • red icing
  • green icing
  • 24 mini candy canes
  • cool whip (optional)
  • colored candies (optional)
  • green and red sugar (optional)
  • pull apart twizzlers

To make these cupcakes, first you need to gather your ingredients. You will need some cake mix. I used a red cake mix and a green cake mix for two different colors of cupcakes. You will also need eggs, vegetable oil, and water to add to the cake mixes. I also used green and red icing. I used some optional things for decoration like mini candy canes, cool whip, twizzlers and colored candies. Now that you have all of the ingredients needed, you can start making your easy Christmas cupcakes.

Easy Christmas Cupcakes

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Make half the cupcakes with the red cake mix and half with the green cake mix. Make them per the instructions on the cake mix box.
  2. Ice the green cupcakes with the red icing. Ice the red cupcakes with the green icing.
  3. Stick a mini candy cane in the top of each cupcake.
  4. You can also decorate some of the cupcakes with white icing, colored candies, twizzlers, and red or green sugar.
  5. Enjoy!

Easy Christmas Cupcakes

To make the cupcakes, just follow the ingredients on the cake mix box and add any food coloring you might want. For an even more Christmas-themed cupcake, I like to use Christmas cupcake wrappers or just red and green ones. I am also making regular sized cupcakes, mini cupcakes and some mini-cakes! If you would like to make these too, you just need a mini muffin pan and a mini cake pan.

When the cupcakes are done baking, you must let them cool before icing them, or the icing will just melt all over the place. When the cupcakes are cooled, it is time to decorate them! I like to use green icing on the red cupcakes and red icing on the green cupcakes! Totally looks like Christmas to me! Then I stick a mini candy cane in the top of the cupcake and it now looks like a fun Christmas ornament! You can also use white icing on the cupcakes and use some green glitter sugar or red glitter sugar. You can also add red and green candies to the cupcakes. You can get the whole family together and decorate all of them differently. I also like to use Pull Apart Twizzlers to make fun designs on the cucpakes. Or you can even use them as the hooks on the cupcake ornaments. The possibilities are endless.

My favourite family tradition is I give my kids a new Christmas ornament every year so that when the have their own home, they will be able to put up ornaments from when they were kids. I hope the continue this tradition when they have a family.
