Are you preparing for an outdoor event this summer? Is there a birthday party you are planning to have outdoors? Maybe you are planning a simple celebration for Memorial Day or the 4th of July? Or just a fun family gathering? It’s supposed to be fun, right? Not a lot of work! Let me give you a few tips for keeping it simple and easy so that you can actually enjoy yourself and not spend them entire time cleaning or cooking. These are some simple tips for an easy summer cookout.
KEEP IT SIMPLE - MAIN DISH
For most of my outdoor entertaining, I will make just one main dish. You can make several that are simple enough. I like to choose hot dogs most of the time. They take just minutes to cook on the grill. And I also have an amazing hot dog sauce recipe to share with you that can be made in your slow cooker at the bottom of this post. Just cook the hamburger and drain it, and throw the rest of the ingredients in and let it cook! Super easy and only one dish to clean afterward. And if there are leftover hot dogs, you can throw them in the pot and heat them right with the hot dog sauce and have an easy meal the next day, too! Or just cook them in the Slow Cooker from the get go if it is too hot to be using the grill that day! My favorite hot dogs are Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs.
KEEP IT SIMPLE - SIDE DISH
A fun side dish to make that is easy and requires few ingredients is Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. And the best part, you can make them in the coolness of the air conditioned house OR outside on the grill! And all you need is bread, cheese and butter or oil! And not just any cheese! Everyone knows the best Grilled Cheeses are made with Kraft Natural Cheese Slices! And the cleanup is a breeze. And who doesn’t love Grilled Cheese!?!?
KEEP IT SIMPLE - DESSERT
What is the best kind of dessert to have in the summer?!?! Something COLD! Ice cream! And Breyers Ice Cream has a great array of flavors to choose from. And you can serve it a couple of ways that are super simple and easy. You can just serve individual small bowls. You can serve it in cones. Or you can take a couple of your favorite cookies and spread some of the ice cream in the middle and make some ice cream sandwiches. Easy and yummy!
KEEP IT SIMPLE - DRINKS
It can be hard to decide what you think everyone will want to drink. So the simplest thing for me is to just pick up a few different 2 Liter bottles of soda and keep them in the fridge or you could also keep them in cooler of ice outside if that is where you will be all day! So easy. I always choose Mt. Dew and Dr. Pepper.
WHERE TO SHOP
You can find all of these awesome items that you need to have an easy Summer Cookout at your local Giant Eagle. It’s super convenient! It’s one one stop shop for grilling this summer! Head to the freezer section for the Ice Cream and then to the beverage aisle for all of your beverage needs. Then head to the meat section to get your hot dogs and off to the dairy section for your Kraft Slices!
EASY HOT DOG SAUCE RECIPE
Now, for the Hot Dog Sauce recipe! Like I said, it is super easy and pretty tasty!
Ingredients

- 2 tbs of taco seasoning
- 2 tbs of chili powder

- 1 tbs of onion powder
- 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup of Ketchup
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
Instructions
- Cook the ground beef in a pan on the stove beforehand and drain the grease.
- Put the cooked beef in the Slow Cooker and add all of the remaining ingredients.
- Mix well and let cook on low for about 2 hours. If you would like the sauce to be thinner, add a little water.
