Having a baby is a life-changing event in many ways, but the one area where many women struggle is their career. It is hard to juggle the responsibilities of being a mother and a career woman. Not surprisingly, many moms give up work completely when their baby comes along. They don’t see how they can find the time to be a good mother as well as holding down a job. It isn’t easy, but if you choose the right job, you can be a mother and a career woman.
Nursing is extremely flexible. If you are already qualified as a nurse, you can use your maternity leave as a chance to study for a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from somewhere like Bradley University. Once you have gained your qualification, you can move into management type roles, which will boost your earning potential once your children are older. If you don’t want to study for a Doctor of Nursing Practice via a DNP online course, there are plenty of other highly flexible options available to qualified nurses.
Realtors can work whatever hours they choose, but since much of the job involves being available during weekends and evenings, it is a job that may suit you if your partner is able to take on the childcare out of normal working hours. To be a realtor, you will need to be certified, but the job pays well and there is plenty of scope for career advancement.
Accountancy has a reputation for being boring, but if you want job stability, accountancy is the ideal career path to follow. Accountants have to obtain professional qualifications before they are able to practice, but you can study for a part-time degree in accounting via distance learning and once you are qualified, you are free to work part-time or in a freelance capacity.
Web designers are free to work from home. It is a highly flexible job and you can set your own hours, which makes it perfect for young moms. If you need to take care of your baby during the day, work evenings and weekends. Anyone can be a web designer – you just need to learn the appropriate skills, most of which can be self-taught via online learning resources. It is a great career if you love messing around with computers and you have a passion for coding and design.
Young mothers dominate the teaching profession. Most people go into teaching because they enjoy working with kids. It is a steady career with lots of scope for promotion. Teaching is also very flexible, so it is ideal for working moms. You will enjoy all the same holidays as your kids, but if you need an even more flexible working schedule, you can always become a substitute teacher.
This is just a small selection of the many career choices available to young moms. The world is your oyster, so don’t let being a mother put you off from going for your dream job.
